The presiding priest was a young man, originally from Poland, warm, gentle hearted. BUT just before the consecration he made an announcement that if you were a "practicing Catholic" you could receive communion…..if not and you want a blessing, fold your arms across your chest and let the priest bless you.
And so I ask……"What would Jesus say????" I highly doubt that he would deprive anyone of receiving the healing sacrament of the Eucharist. And WHO are we to judge who is deserving? I've said this for years……at any given time you could give communion to someone who is an axe murderer!!!!! How do any of us know the condition of another's soul? It is so upsetting to me that this occurs in a world where attendance at mass is dwindling, where people are leaving the Catholic church…..There is no room for EXclusion.
Why make people feel they are not worthy. I understand what the rules of Church are, but as much as i embrace my Catholicism I do NOT agree with everything.
I am so grateful that these words of excluding others are not part of our liturgies at St. James!
