Today, Holy Thursday, marks the beginning of the sacred Triduum. Every Holy Thursday at our parish there is a beautiful ceremony whereby the priests and deacons wash the feet of members of the congregation….just as Jesus washed the feet of his 12 disciples on that Holy Thursday centuries ago. One of the songs we sing during the foot washing is "We are called to Servanthood," written by one of our music directors. I've heard it over and over, yet each time I hear it my heart is touched and it brings me to tears. Jesus showed no pride, but, rather he showed humility. It wasn't "beneath" Him to kneel down and wash the feet of others.
I've been asking myself what act of humility I could do in these next days…..what "foot washing" can I do to prepare for this glorious Easter Sunday? Now that I have asked the question I just know I will get a little nudge from "somewhere" to let me know where to focus my energies.
How about you? Does this move you to search within youra little more?
