Stan and his beautiful wife, Dorothy (married 69 years), became friends of mine many years ago when we first came to St. James. Someone had told them about our little Meggan, and from that moment on, we connected. Though they never knew her, they remembered the month she died, always asked me how I was doing….intuitive, sensitive, caring, gentle hearted people. And what a blessing for me to know them. They have made a profound difference in my life. So when I walked into Stan's brief wake this morning before the mass, I saw Dorothy, so frail, in a wheelchair, watching the videos of Stan. Such a rush of sadness came over me as I approached her….together we wept….she for the love of her life and me that I will never see him again, but more so for the broken heart she now carries.
The celebration of Stan's life was beautiful. Fr Joji celebrated the mass and, as always, gave a beautiful homily.
I learned a great deal from both of them…..about living with and through limitations, sorrow, yet always able to share a smile and a hug. Often times when I sang at the mass they were at I would discreetly blow them a kiss. Today I gently blew his kiss up to heaven.
I am so grateful for their presence in my life. Who has made a difference in your life?
