Such was the case a few days ago when I had to return some gift items. I won't say the name of the store, but I can tell you it's expensive….and the clothes are fabulous.
Now, when I go into a department store, I prefer to search on my own. If I have any questions, I promptly ask a sales representative. And I've NEVER had a personal shopper. Get the picture?
A young woman approached me as soon as I entered the store, almost ran into me actually.
"Do you know about our sales?" (followed by her rattling off 40% off this …. %off that)
"What exactly are you looking for?"
"What size are you..hmmm, medium?Large?" THAT DID IT! I wear a size 8 and sometimes a 6!!!! She's lucky I didn't step on her toes…or something like that!
I told her I was "just looking." (hoping she'd leave me alone) I walked over to a rack of clothes and out of the corner of my eye I could see this "looming" presence. When I turned around she was in my face. She did this again and again ….wanted to show me what was available. (and I wanted to SCREAM…..
"DONT'CHA SEE I'M PERFECTLY CAPABLE OF WALKING AROUND FROM RACK TO RACK?????"
But, I didn't…..I took a deep breath and continued to browse. Eventually I left that store, items returned but nothing purchased.
I wonder if there are times when I am in another person's face….out of bounds….
And so, putting it in perspective, trying to connect it (the lesson learned) to my everyday life, I will make a conscious effort to respect the space of others….read their body language….and just let them be!!!!!
