But the other night, Jack, who is almost 10, asked me to sing for him as he settled down for sleep. One song turned into three (which was ok by me!). As I kissed him the questions began....I'd finish one answer and he would come up with another question. Was he trying to avoid bedtime? Well, of course he was. But the one that made me chuckle to myself was: "So, Nama, they asked us at school where we would want to live if we could choose any place in the world. Most of the kids said somewhere in the US (as he rolled his eyes), but I said Ireland (no, he's never been there before). I figure I'll take some classes (college) and live there.... and then I'll learn that language they speak.....what's it called?" ME: well they do speak English, honey, but deeper into the country they speak Gaelic.
"Well then I'll learn Gaelic! And by the way, Nama, why does everything say 'MADE IN CHINA?' I haven't seen anything that says made in the USA."
After a brief explanation, I told him that it was reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally time for lights out. As I left the room, I had such a warm feeling in my heart and a chuckle in my throat. I mean, are there ANY things better than conversing with little grandchildren?! Not in my book.
