I have to say that all 4 of our children were/are individuals who include others. Those with children have taught their children the same value.
You're wondering why I'm expounding on this, I'm sure. I write what my experiences are or the experiences I witness…..good, bad or indifferent. Recently I've seen people hurt deeply by exclusion….children who are awesome, adorable kids that are left out, bewildered by the exclusion; adults who simply wither and turn inward because they have been excluded or not considered.
I know a woman who is a gifted doctor, mom, wife, tremendously creative, deeply spiritual. She is a kind woman and never does things for herself, always for others. Her self esteem is almost non existent. Unfortunately her spouse doesn't get it…he's a nice enough man, but, it's just not in his nature to be considerate in these ways. Yet all of his needs and the needs of their family are met by this one woman. (She's actually somewhat of a superwoman, though she would be aghast at that description) More and more I see her withering up and blending into the woodwork….almost like a flower withering up and dying.
People who are very shy and unassuming rarely stand up for themselves….out of fear of rejection, feeling insignificant, or being looked upon as stupid. Recently I saw this situation yet again. This time, though, the exclusion involved an even larger number of individuals.
I've been told that I'm oversensitive at times…ok, I'd say that is true. It happens when I see others being hurt, left out, treated as unimportant….even though "we are all the same in importance" (or so say the powers that be). I probably should have gone into law, because I HATE injustice…..but Judge Judy I could never be.
So what's the moral of this litany:
Be KIND to others
LOOK for the goodness in others
THINK of other people's feelings
Put others FIRST and yourself last ….in other words take a turn at being the last one on the bus
Don't DIMINISH others by your own selfishness and need to be better than
Jesus would say each one of us is a unique gift, that no two people are created alike, that we ALL matter. Look around you at those who need a boost, a chance at "being" higher up in the line….give someone else the chance to be a shining star.
