The cicadas/locusts are sooooooo loud….and all that sound comes from their strange anatomy, an exoskeleton which creates the sound when they deform their bodies. Seriously! That's what the definition said!! Goodness, doesn't that sound like it HURTS???
I do marvel at all of God's creation, but I really wonder what the purpose of all that noise is…..I know, I know, I know that the males try to attract females with the sound, but….
Then there are the empty outer shells laying all over trees, attached to houses, on the sidewalks. Several years ago (same time of the year) our granddaughter, Meggan, was staying with us for a week. She lives in Wisconsin in an area with few mature trees. Needless to say, she had never heard the sound before. She was fascinated by it and even more fascinated by the discarded shells (beady eyes and all). She collected a number of them to take home and show the family.
So, what's my point??? How and where do we find silence in the midst of so much noise?
It's there; we just have to really listen.
