But would I want to C L I M B them? Better yet C O U L D I?
Jesus took Peter, James and John to the top of a mountain. And immediately He was transformed. "His face shone like the sun and His clothes became as white as the light. " (Matthew 17) Imagine their reaction….definitely an "AHA" moment, right? Definitely a grace filled moment.
When they looked up at the top of the mountain, did they doubt they could do it? What did it take for those men to get up that mountain? the energy? They had to be exhausted at some point on the journey. Perhaps they wanted to quit and go back down. But they didn't. They stuck it out.
We all have mountains we have to climb over the course of our lives. Some may be more challenging than others. Some are higher than others. Yet if we are to reach the top (goal?), (solve the problem?) we must continue on. Once we reach the top we can see the light, that brighter than white light.
What mountains have you had to climb? Was someone or some thing there to support you?
What mountains are you struggling with during these 40 desert days? Is someone or some thing helping you?
Can you see a way up to the top….you may need to stop and rest along the way. And that's okay.
Each little step, each pull to continue, each moment of frustration and desperation….all part of the journey.
Lord, help us with the mountains we are struggling with. Be there to guide us along the way. Give us the hope that we CAN do it, the belief that we will survive the climb. And perhaps we, too, will see the dazzling white of Your Light.
