As I watch the falling snow outside, it looks so pristine, so new, not yet touched by little critters or little people. It makes me think of 2014, just come alive...brand new, filled with hope and promises and joy. As of yet it is also brand new, untouched, all fresh and new. Of course that will change in the next few hours. I want to "touch" this new year gently, to enter it with dignity and grace, promising to be the best I can be. If each one of us can enter it gently, perhaps the world would be a better place. I wish you peace and joy and all that is good.
Today is the 4th anniversary of my sister's sudden death. Just days before she spent Christmas with us for the first time in 8 years. Her life had been a troubled one from early on, so when she died at the age of 59 I knew she had finally arrived and was in peace.
Hug your sister today, and if you don't have a biological sister, hug one of your girlfriends.
Just one short day ago many houses were filled with wrapping paper and bows strewn everywhere….And churches held special masses and services with children dressed as angels and shepherds ….There was an atmosphere of joy.
AND the REAL reason for the season, of course, is JESUS…. A tiny little baby born in a manger, born to bring peace and love to the world.
Let's make Christmas be more than a season
Let's carry the Joy and Love throughout every season…
I wish you peace in the upcoming new year.
Amidst the hustle and bustle of crazy shopping, wrapping and making just one more batch of cookies……more importantly is the reason for this Christmas season……."Jesus is the Reason for the Season!" So, even though there are barely 2 hours till midnight , and tomorrow is Christmas eve, we can still make these last hours of Advent meaningful. …but how?
It doesn't take something grandiose to impress God. He knows what is in our hearts and minds. Let's try to let go and let God work through us. Feel the gentle nudge from the Spirit and surrender the chaos and spend just a few more moments in joyful anticipation of the birth of Jesus.
What will your gift be for the Christ child?
There are certain moments in time that are, indeed, precious….special…..memorable….pure gift. Such was the case this afternoon when I got to spend a few hours with our oldest grandchild, Jimmy. An upcoming tonsillectomy required an appt with the pediatrician. I was amazed at how he handled himself, asking and answering the doctor questions. Afterword we then took off for Woodfield in hopes of finding his Christmas gift. We left without one! He was ever so mindful that he didn't want it to be too expensive. He's going to go online where he'll look for other things. We had a slice of pizza at one of the restaurants and then began the "trek" home.
Jimmy is such a great kid. Appreciative, affectionate, and so grown up. Ah, yes, that is the role of the eldest. The world is wide open for you, Jimmy!
Blessings to all
…..you won the drawing on tonight's Mega Million, which is over 600 million dollars? And what exactly does 600 million dollars look like? Certainly a tad different than the picture at the left.
People are buying tickets like mad. Imagine if one person won…..just ONE individual. As I watched people standing in line to buy tickets, I was trying to imagine what they would do with so much money. What would you or I do for others in the world?
It seems strange to be "waiting " to see what numbers roll out…..when the real waiting is not for money or things, but rather for the re birth of a tiny baby, One Who sacrificed more than
I was daydreaming one day and the thought came to me that my wedding dress was all boxed up in the attic doing ….what? Nothing, just tied up in a pretty box. And then it came to me…..what if I had pictures of all of my granddaughters in that dress….why? Just because. So these are shots that Jen took of Ally and Meggan in it. I think it should be a series of greeting cards…..hmmmm, Hallmark, here I come…...
Ah, yes, another year of decorating gingerbread houses. Notice Patrick caught in the act of licking the frosting…..BUT we kept within Daddy's rule of "ONLY ONE PIECE OF SOMETHING."
This is always an adventure and every year the houses come out differently. For instance, Jimmy did not mutilate his Santa this year….on second thought he bit Santa's head off.
The silly sisters decided to "dab" each other with frosting……
Big bro deals with the frustrations of being the oldest and having to be tolerant….
Another year of great memories
Children around the world put their shoes by the doorstep in hopes that St Nicholas will come and fill their shoes with goodies. So, the children are waiting …. anticipating.
Advent, as we know, is a time of waiting…..preparing…..anticipating the birth of the Christ .
Lord, help me to clean out the cobwebs of my heart and prepare a place for you to rest.
