How do merciful, Christian, decent people survive such an atrocity?! She's only one of many. Fr Jim McDermott, SJ, interviewed a young mother in Mexico who has also been separated from her husband (a US citizen) and children. Yet this woman still believes in loving others…her faith is sustaining her. She said, "Even though Im being labeled as undocumented, I still believe in acceptance and love." I'm not sure I could be so reasonable and forgiving if I was taken from my family. And what happens to the children who are now without their mother? What would we do?
At the end of mass this deacon was reemed out by a parishioner who said he had no business to tell us to pray and fight for immigration (doesn't that fall into the category of social justice). It is so difficult for me to grasp the mentality that goes along with this. We "were" the land of the free. I wonder what this parishioner (and so many others) would think if they walked in the shoes of these people?! God, help us all!
